Internet safety is a topic relevant to all parents of K-college children! Jesse Weinberger is a nationally recognized Internet Safety presenter, TEDx speaker, and author. After listening to Jesse at another event, the staff at Buckeye Central were so impressed that they found a way to bring her to their community as well! And they invited us! This is a FREE, adult only presentation.  Babysitting will be provided by the Buckeye Central National Honor Society.  A concession stand will also be available. Testing Tips!  We had a wonderful speaker a couple of weeks ago. His name is Bruce Boguski and he taught us all kinds of weird and fun tips on how to perform better! I would love to share some of his wonderful advice! Scent! Some scents are shown to help us perform better in specific areas. You can use this while studying, during class, and during exams! English/Language - LEMON! Burn a lemon scented candle while studying and eat lemon candy during class or the exam. Math/Science - PEPPERMINT! Not only is peppermint helpful during math/science, it also makes us alert and gives us energy. Feeling a little sluggish? Eat a peppermint! Before the test! It is important to get yourself in the right state of mind before taking a test or entering a stressful situation. Here are some things you can do that might help. Take a deep breath. In through the nose, out through the mouth. Your stomach should expand! Stretch. You can discreetly stretch calf muscles before and during...

Pennies for Pasta Every year Lexington Junior High participates in an amazing fundraiser through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It is called Pennies for Patients . However, at Lexington Junior High, it is fondly referred to as “Pennies for Pasta”! This is an opportunity for Lexington students and families to make a real difference in the lives of others. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. They exist to find cures and ensure access to treatments for blood cancer patients.  LLS funds research to advance breakthrough therapies for blood cancer patients. Since 1954, LLS has awarded more than $1 billion in research grants. Last year, LLS invested nearly $79.8 million in blood cancer research. Thanks to LLS-funded research and the fundraising efforts of programs like Pennies for Patients, survival rates for some blood can...

Importance of Mental Health Did you know that, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, 20% of youth between the ages 13-18 live with a mental health condition and 8% of youth have an anxiety disorder?  What is even scarier to me is that according to the same data reports, nearly 50% of youth between ages 8 – 15 didn’t receive any mental health services in the last year. If you stop to really reflect on that, it would be unheard of for people to be ill with a physical illness and not receive any health care.  So that brings us to the question of why people aren’t getting the help they need.  “Many people feel embarrassed or ashamed of symptoms because our society places illogical taboos on mental health issues over physical conditions,” said clinical psychologist Nikki Massey-Hastings, PsyD. This can be seen even in the school setting.  When someone walks back into school with a cast or brace after breaking a bone or having ACL reconstructive surg...
College Credit Plus The College Credit Plus (CC+) program is an opportunity for students to take college courses while still enrolled at Lexington.  This program is open to students as young as Junior High. However, we highly recommend waiting until High School to begin this rigorous curriculum. There are several details involved in participating in the CC+ program and students must notify Mr. Gerhardt or Ms. Cavalier to indicate their intent to participate in the CC+ program in the following school year. The deadline is April 1st. In order to explain all of the details of the program and to provide you with the forms necessary, all students and parents interested in participating in this program should plan to attend the Academic Options night Thursday, February 18 in the High School auditorium. Representatives from the Ohio State University and North Central State College will attend to share the opportunities available through CC+ with ...
