SLEEP The first day of school is almost half finished! Anyone have a difficult time getting up this morning? I know I am still working on getting to bed earlier. Switching back to school mode can be a difficult transition. Sleep is INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT! Here is a great article discussing the HUGE impact sleep has on school!   Know! Sleep Impacts School Success For students everywhere, saying goodbye to summer break meansalso saying goodbye to their summer sleep schedule of staying up late and snoozing until lunchtime. For tweens and teens, this transition is especially challenging. Their body clocks are programmed to stay up later and sleep in later. And while it may be a struggle, sleep is an essential element for school success. How much is enough? According to the National Sleep Foundation, the updated recommended range for school-age children (ages 6 – 13) is 9-11 hours of sleep; and teens (ages 14-17) are said to need 8-10 hours of sleep.  For many famili

  It was so nice to see everyone at Open House last night! I hope you had a great evening practicing lockers, meeting teachers, and seeing friends! I am working hard to have everything ready for your arrival on Tuesday. Here are a few reminders to help get us through the start of the year! Forms available in the office: Lockers : Lockers take practice. They are old and tired. If you continue to have trouble please let us know so the custodian can take a look at it! There are green slips in the office for exactly this purpose. Fill one out and he will fix it! Schedules : If there is an error on your schedule I want to know about it. There is a blue schedule change request form waiting for you in the office. Fill one out and I can typically get these problems taken care of in the same day. Please keep in mind, we will not make schedule changes based on a preferred teacher, lunch with friends, etc. There must be an academic need. Medication : Does your child take medication at s

New Faces! Open house and schedule pick up are right around the corner. As you pick up your schedules you may see some names and faces you do not recognize. English Department: Mrs. Burd and Mrs. Dewald will not be back this year. Mrs. Burd will be returning to her hometown to teach High School English. Mrs. Dewald will be enjoying time with her two young girls. Mrs. Sarah Pearce Mrs. Pearce was a long-term sub for us about a year ago. Mrs. Pearce will be teaching English 7 and English 7+ in room 212. Ms. Rachel Frantz Ms. Frantz is a local who spent some time teaching 9th Grade English in North Carolina. Ms. Frantz will be teaching English 8 and English 8+ in room 207. Science Department: Mr. Schweichheimer started his teaching career with elementary students and will be going back to his roots at Eastern Elementary this year.
