CACY Food Drive CACY is a student group focused on improving the school and community, and making positive choicees. CACY stands for Community Action for Capable Youth. We have a great group of students this year who are passionate about making a difference! CACY sponsored an activity during lunch for Red Ribbon Week, and is about to kick off a food drive! Starting Monday, November 16th, students can bring any non-perishable, not expired, items in to their 1st period class. For every 5 items a student donates, they will get a raffle ticket to enter their name in a drawing. In addition to the individual incentive, the classroom with the most food donated will win the grand prize. All donations will go to Grace Episcopal Church in Mansfield. This is a wonderful organization that helps many families on a regular basis. Through generous donations and support, they are able to provide food to over 600 families on a single day! Good Things This year the junior high students have an exciting opportunity. We have been working in coordination with Central Elementary to provide opportunities to help and serve others. Junior high students in 5 th or 6 th period study hall are able to walk up to Central and help with recess. This has turned out better than anyone expected it to be! Studies have shown that cross-grade mentoring has a positive impact on all parties involved. It influences academic achievement, behavior, feelings and attitudes. I look forward to seeing the positive changes in our students. It is already obvious! When the students return from volunteering they are all smiles and full of energy. It has also made them better at time management. Students enjoy helping at recess so much that they plan out their homework schedule and study hall time to make room for everything.
