Study Tables

The first grading period is officially over!

It is amazing how fast the year goes by. For many of you, it probably feels like it just started. At the elementary level grading periods were 9 weeks long. Starting in Junior High, they are only 6 weeks long! This can be both a positive and a negative, depending on how you look at it.

On the positive side, you have more grades to average together for your final. Also, you have more fresh starts! Every six weeks you get to start over! This is often a source of hope for those of you who struggle with your grades. Each six weeks brings a new opportunity to set and achieve your academic goals.

On the other hand, six weeks is not a lot of time! For this reason, it is VERY IMPORTANT to start each new grading period as best as you possibly can. It is much easier to maintain your grades, than it is to dig yourself out of a hole from the first week!

There are many things that can get in the way of good grades. Distraction, organization, forgetfulness, laziness, struggle in a specific area, not advocating for yourself, procrastination, etc. The list could go on and on! I know that not every day is going to be a great day, and at some point every student will run in to some kind of problem they need to work through. It is our goal at the Junior High to help you through those things!

Homework Room: Every morning in room 112 (Life Skills Room). This is an opportunity to get yourself organized for the day, ask a last minute question about yesterday's homework, or escape the noise in the cafeteria!

Talk to your teachers! This sounds so simple, but not nearly enough students take advantage of this. IF you are having trouble in a class, talk to your teacher! They want to know how to better help you! If you are shy or scared to do this, come see me! We will work it out together:)

Study Hall: Study Hall is not a time to relax and take a break from school. It is not a place to procrastinate and socialize. Take advantage of these precious minutes so you have more free time at home! Need help with something? Ask your study hall teacher!

ALEKS & EdConnect: Math homework is a source of frustration for many parents and students. EdConnect is your new best friend! Here you can view videos that teach each lesson the same way our teachers do it! This is also where you access ALEKS assignments, and can get a lot of extra credit this way!

Math Corrections: Correct your math homework and earn credit for those corrections! This is an amazing opportunity to increase your grade every week! In addition, by doing corrections, you will be much more prepared for quizzes and tests!

Study Tables: On Monday, October 9th, the Junior High will start a new after school opportunity. We are calling it “Study Tables”. This is a great time for any student to get a little help on homework, time to organize, and study for tests. There will be staff present in the Junior High Library, from 2:30-3:15 pm on Monday – Thursday. Come to the Library and check it out!

*All students must have a way home at 3:15 PM.
