Importance of Mental Health Did you know that, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, 20% of youth between the ages 13-18 live with a mental health condition and 8% of youth have an anxiety disorder?  What is even scarier to me is that according to the same data reports, nearly 50% of youth between ages 8 – 15 didn’t receive any mental health services in the last year. If you stop to really reflect on that, it would be unheard of for people to be ill with a physical illness and not receive any health care.  So that brings us to the question of why people aren’t getting the help they need.  “Many people feel embarrassed or ashamed of symptoms because our society places illogical taboos on mental health issues over physical conditions,” said clinical psychologist Nikki Massey-Hastings, PsyD. College Credit Plus The College Credit Plus (CC+) program is an opportunity for students to take college courses while still enrolled at Lexington.  This program is open to students as young as Junior High. However, we highly recommend waiting until High School to begin this rigorous curriculum. There are several details involved in participating in the CC+ program and students must notify Mr. Gerhardt or Ms. Cavalier to indicate their intent to participate in the CC+ program in the following school year. The deadline is April 1st. In order to explain all of the details of the program and to provide you with the forms necessary, all students and parents interested in participating in this program should plan to attend the Academic Options night Thursday, February 18 in the High School auditorium. Representatives from the Ohio State University and North Central State College will attend to share the opportunities available through CC+ with ...

Winter break is right around the corner! This is always a busy, crazy, drama-filled, exciting, and FUN week at the Junior High! The sense of peace and calm that some associate with the holiday season is NOT apparent here at Lexington Junior High! And we would not have it any other way:) This Friday will be crazy as always. Here is the schedule!   7:40 - 1st period Tardy bell  8:00 - Fire & Ice Performance. The Fruitcake song is a Lexington tradition! 8:30 - Students report to 2nd period  *There will be more surprises throughout the day* 2:05-2:20 - Toy Time winner presentation. (The dreaded Whip & NaeNae! ) 2:21 - Winter Break begins! I hope everyone has a wonderful break and a happy holiday! Hopefully, we can all find a few minutes to relax at some point too!  

HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS! Toys for Tots Student Council will be sponsoring a Toy Drive. This event will run from December 7-11 th . This will be a BOYS V. GIRLS competition! There will be a prize and it is guaranteed to be entertaining!  CACY Food Drive   CACY is in the middle of their annual food drive. We are collecting non-perishable items to donate to Grace Episcopal Church’s food pantry. This is a time of year to give and be grateful. Please help us help others by sending in your non-perishable items. Students are entered in a raffle for an individual prize and the classroom with the most items will also get a prize! The last day is MONDAY, November 23 rd ! (There was an earlier post about this if you would like more details).    Girl Talk Girl Talk is the newest club at the Junior High!
